Call for Papers

The 1996 North America Taiwan Studies Conference

The Preparatory Council for the 1996 North America Taiwan Studies Conference

Purpose
The Preparatory Council of the 1996 North American Taiwan Studies Conference aims to promote Taiwan studies in general and to enhance interaction between the academia of Taiwan and the North America. We especially encourage the participation of graduate students and young scholars concerning and conducting Taiwan studies.

The Preparatory Council of the conference is planning to provide for paper presenters the waiver for registration fee, and partial travel aid. Details will be announced no later than mid May.

Subject

Any subject related to Taiwan studies. Papers on the following subjects are of particular needs:

  • Taiwan's History and Culture
  • Taiwan's Political and Economic Transformation
  • Taiwan's Social Movements and Social Policies
  • China Studies related to Taiwan

Paper Style

Manuscripts must be typed (in English or Chinese), double spaced, and include an abstract of no more than 150 words. In general, the Conference considers papers up to 30 pages in length. Manuscripts should be prepared following ordinary academic formats.

Selection of Paper

Papers are reviewed by experts from the appropriate field. In general, we place emphasis on the contribution of the paper on the related fields of Taiwan study.

Deadline

April 20: submitting the abstract to natsc@taiwanese.com
May 5: three copies of the paper and a disk containing the article in Word or Ascii format

Registration Fee

Students:

  • $75 if register before May 17, 1996
  • $125 if register after May 17, 1996

Non-students:

  • $100 if register before May 17, 1996
  • $150 if register after May 17, 1996

Registration fee covers accommodation and all conference papers. If you do not need the accommodation, please subtract $25 from the registration fee and mark on your check.
